15 minutes with God & A Rescue Dog Named Vero

Hi God,

Sitting in the library during my morning tea with You, I have much to be grateful for. Vero is in his fluffy bed on the white loveseat next to me—his favorite stuffed animal under his paw—as I sit and look at nature, especially the stunning maple tree and the towering oaks. There is so much serenity on this quiet cul-de-sac.

Staring into my tea mug, I think about my daughters, grandchildren, husband, and beautiful, dear friends, aware that many others don’t have such blessed relationships. Looking out the French doors to the deck, I see the feathered creatures that visit daily at the feeders or perch on the railings. I’m in awe of the elegant hummingbirds with mesmerizing lightning-fast wings; all welcome guests, framed by the birch trees and the beautiful scene.

I celebrate my first grandchild, who is intelligent, thoughtful, and beautiful—inside and out—passing a demanding EMT program at only seventeen. She is a broad thinker who loves meaningful conversations (and K-Pop), and wants to explore our planet, making a difference in our hurting and scarred earth.

And in this silent time, I also pray fervently  for someone I love dearly facing a challenge.

Time is so very fleeting. I had an “aha moment” as I sat there fully aware, not jumping up to put laundry in the dryer or work on another client project.  Sometimes I wish I could be like those beautiful avian fliers, flitting through the timber, frolicking joyfully unencumbered by our human constraints (of course, there are always predators ready to swoop down on those feathered creatures, just like evil homo sapiens), but in this moment, I want to lean into the beauty.

One of life’s purposes, I believe, is to manifest joy…purposely shape it, choosing to see the light, not the dark, leaning more into the love and abundance, not the heartbreak and sorrow. But it’s not always easy. (I fail often at it.) It requires determination and desire: having hearts open to the delight of life, recognizing that no one can be perfect (including ourselves), and knowing yourself deeply, at your core, where you are not simply a human-being but a beloved reflection of what God has created.

With Love,
Kay
