The table of Thanksgiving has been set.
For many, it will be filled with laughter and reminiscing.
For many, it will be a table for just one.
A barely perceptible voice whispers, “you are loved.”
“Thank You, God” will be followed by a list of extraordinary blessings.
“Thank You, God” will be followed by “for just one more day on this planet.”
Deeper awareness seeps into the spirit.
Prayers will be earnestly shared through the lens of joy.
Prayers will be uttered almost silently, spilling from a near-empty rusted cup.
In those prayers, you will sense a glimmer of hope.
A knowing that has walked alongside you blooms.
A knowing that has gone unacknowledged weeps.
Breath, held; time seems to stand still.
Smiles, sometimes bold, often almost imperceptible,
lift hearts struggling to find their place among the
freely flowing, or ferociously chocked back, tears
depending on the chair, you sit in.
The voice is louder now; “you are loved.”
Looking forward to the future so that life can truly begin
or reminiscing, holding onto bygone years,
adorned or plain, wealthy or poor,
basking in the sun or hiding in the shadows,
we all have hearts that beat with Your life.
We are all the same, aren’t we?
Sorrow and joy.
Loss and abundance.
Pain and renewal.
Juxtapositions mingling together
all part of the journey that wends through life.
This day before us now is all we have.
A time of Thanksgiving—God inviting you to sit for a while,
to hear the wind whispering among the fallen leaves;
to acknowledge the breath, you often take for granted;
to know fully that you are completely loved just as you are.
